Welcome to the Team: Johanna Rooney

We are giving a warm welcome to our new financial planner, Johanna Rooney, who started with us earlier this year. Now that she is settled in, we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to share how she has found her time with us so far. Keep reading to find out more about Johanna’s love for the financial industry, romantic novels, and who she would invite to a dinner party if she could choose anyone, living or dead.

When did you join Platinum Financial Planning?

What do you love about working within financial services?

I love the industry and how I get to work with a variety of clients on a day-to-day basis. It could be someone starting with their finances right up to dealing with someone at retirement. No two days are the same.

Why did you choose Platinum?

The opportunity presented itself to work at Platinum and what stood out for me was that the company felt authentic and I felt comfortable showing up as my whole self. Platinum’s core values were aligned well with the company and with mine.

I was also attracted by the fact that Platinum are independent. This means that we can make recommendations across the market and we aren’t limited in the products and investments that we offer. We can therefore provide holistic advice and recommend the most appropriate solutions to our clients.

How have you found working within the Platinum team?

There is a wonderful team spirit! Everyone is compatible which makes for a great work environment. I found there to be a great support system in place from fellow employees to management, especially through my initial training stage and as I now work towards gaining my chartered adviser status. No problem has been too big and no question too silly!

What surprised you during your first few months of working with Platinum?

Having worked in an industry that can be heavily sales based I was really surprised and impressed with how much Platinum value building and maintaining relationships with clients. I discovered very quickly that Platinum genuinely only want what is best for its clients and due to this, they build long-lasting trusted relationships.

What is a typical day in the life of a Financial Planner?

Coffee first, always! I usually follow this by checking up on the latest market and industry news. It is so important for me as a financial planner to always be up to date with the latest industry changes and it helps that I have a genuine interest in financial services.

My day is then followed by client meetings, following up with clients via phone and email as well as dealing with their third-party contacts such as their solicitor or accountant. We take full accountability when dealing with other professionals and it is rewarding that our clients feel comfortable and trust us enough to take care of that for them.

What is your favourite way to unwind outside of work?

I love to head out for a walk with my partner and our miniature schnauzer, Nellie, and then we will follow that up with a takeaway and a glass of wine.

Tell us something we do not know about you?

I once abseiled down Belfast Castle for PIP’s mental health charity.

Where is your dream holiday location?

I would love to go back to Thailand. We visited a few different islands on the coast which was amazing and so was the food.

Fun fact: I had never eaten Thai food before going to Thailand and, after trying it there, I have never looked back. It is my favourite food now!

Are you reading anything right now that you would recommend?

I love to escape the real world with a good chick-lit novel. Recently, I have read books by Colleen Hoover, Paige Toon, and Jane Fallon. However, my favourite book of all time would have to be ‘Me before you’ by JoJo Mayes.

If you had to pick three celebrities, living or dead, to host a dinner party for, who would you choose?

It would have to be Piers Morgan because I am intrigued by his views on so many things. Oprah Winfrey, because she just seems like she has a story to tell about everyone, and Warren Buffett because he is one of the greatest investors of all time.
